Vernon is a small, rural town with less than 1000 residents. The quaint, pioneer town was the site of a major Indian settlement, with Holmes Creek and the Choctawhatchee River helping them survive and explore the area. Currently, it is a one red-light town but is being 4-laned and looking forward to growth. This family oriented community is super proud of its Yellow Jacket sports teams! was featured in a documentary filmed named Vernon, Florida (produced in 1981) highlighting the residents. The area’s history is exhibited at the Historical Society Museum in City Hall. Excellent fishing and hunting in this area! It’s located on Hwy 79 just 10 miles south of Interstate-10 and only 30 miles north Panama City Beach! Go to http://vernonfl.com for more information.
